Crimea, May 1971 - 1973

When I was eleven, parents took me to Crimea for the end of April and beginning of May, the period when I suffered from asthma. This helped a lot, and was repeated next year, and several times later.

These slides I took myself in 1971, 72 and 73 years (they are mixed here), with a 35mm camera that formerly belonged to my father, who presented it to me a year (or some such) before. The camera was "Zorky" (without number), a Soviet copy of a WWII time German "Leika" model. This was a nice camera, most of the defects visible on these pictures are due to film processing, not the camera. The film is ORWO Color (brand later renamed to ORWO Chrome), reversable, made in East Germany. The slides where kept in refrigerator most of the time. Scanned in May 1998 with Nikon CoolScan II (LS-20) scanner.

Landscapes in this series are mostly Crimean Mountains in the vicinity of Alushta town, animals are in the Crimean Reserve, town views are taken in Alushta, people with red banners is a May 1st demonstration. The fountain is in Bakhchisarai, the summer-house and the sculpture are in Nikitsky Botanical Gardens.

This is the first series of pictures that I made myself.
